The kids make it to school and we're introduced to bad boy Dylan McKay, bad boy with a heart of gold that is. The episode goes on to establish the budding bromance between Brandon and Dylan. Dylan's friends with a seemingly bad crowd, but shows his heroic side in the end. Brandon is mooning over a girl in this crowd who is clearly damaged (and who we'll never see again). She ends up getting drunk and surfing, where we find out she's an alcoholic because, as the doctor says, "nobody drinks that much for fun" (cough, cough). In the end, Dylan was unaware of the girls surfing accident and ditches his bad crowd for Brandon.
We don't get too much Brenda this episode, but what we do is hilariously bitchy, so much so that at some points no one else can get a word in.
One more thing, I'd like to give a shout out to our friend Christy who was nice enough to lend us her Brenda and Dylan dolls from her private collection to serve as blogging props.
Laurel here...first I would like to thank Mark for making me dinner tonight. The onion soup was amazing!
A couple of funny things about this episode...Brenda goes shopping with Kelly who tries to talk her into buying some $150 jeans, which of course is not an option for Brenda...so she makes her own! She sews a bunch of patches onto a regular pair of jeans and viola! "Cool" jeans!
Also there's a beach party that all of the cool kids are going to. Kelly drives Donna, Brenda, and Brandon, but when she she decides the party is lame and wants to leave she leaves Brenda and Brandon behind. Those Beverly hills bitches...
Cocktail moments:
When Brenda asks Kelly what she'll be doing this weekend, Kelly responds, "working on my back, I spent all last weekend lying on it"
When Kelly and Brenda are shopping and Brenda points out an outfit, Kelly says, "We're going to the beach Brenda, not the valley,"
When Brandon finds Dylan's Byron book and Dylan describes him as "Mad, bad and dangerous to know; that was him and that's me"
The best outfit award for this episode goes to Dylan, for wearing giant baggy overalls with only one shoulder strap fastened, hip hop style. Clearly they hadn't completely defined his style yet this early in the show.
Why y no photo blogging props?
